Rana Daggubati is one of the producers of the upcoming Tamil period film Kaantha along with Dulquer Salmaan, who also plays the lead. The movie, currently in the post-production stage, is set to release later this year. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Daggubati, while speaking about the film, was all praise for Dulquer. He said, “Dulquer and I have been friends for, maybe, two decades now. It’s amazing that we got to get together on Kaantha. It’s because of Selva (Selvamani Selvaraj), the filmmaker, that we found a story that was very honest and truthful. It captures the milieu of the 1950s very beautifully in a human story.” Raggubati believes the film couldn’t have been made without Dulquer. “Still early on to tell but I think if it wasn’t Dulquer, I don’t know who else would have pulled this off,” he said. Debut filmmaker Anuparna Roy, winner of the Orizzonti Award for Best Director at the 82nd Venice Film Festival for her film Songs of Forgotten Trees, has defended her remarks on Palestine amid growing controversy, and revealed that noted filmmaker Anurag Kashyap had advised her against speaking on the subject.
