BH Style Icons 2023: 5 KJo movies that set style statements for decades to come

Director, Producer, Actor - Karan Johar’s personal style over the decades has unrolled and unravelled a lot like his personality. So has the styles of his leading ladies and handsome heroes, after all who can forget the fact that back in 1995, Karan was not just an assistant director for DDLJ, but also a costume designer for Shahrukh Khan as Raj. Over the years as he developed his own brand of cinema with Dharma Productions he also gave India a gateway into the world of high end sports brands and some very iconic styles. Let’s have a look at the most iconic styles that only Karan Johar’s Cinema could have bought into vogue. Rahul, Tina & Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai This movie has exposed the audience to so many in-your-face  international brands that the athleisure and casual wear of the trio in college gave some serious style goals which fashion per se are still relevant. Rahul’s oversized jackets and neck chain with cool written on it, Tina’s mini dresses and unique lipstick shades and Anjali’s crop tops and dungarees had very conveniently seeped into styles of most teenagers. Rohan & Pooja in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham This is literally the first time Bollywood saw a hero in crop tops because Hrithik Roshan as Rohan accidentally cut his shirts a little too short, but crop no crop the style of both Hrithik and Kareena was outstanding in the movie. No one can forget Kareena in the hot red cut out bellbottom and blouse in You Are My Soniya or Hrithik’s sleeveless leather jacket and dark glasses in Deewana Hai Dekho Bekarar Wo song. Aman, Rohit & Naina in Kal Ho Na Ho Nikhil Advani’s direction, made under the Dharma banner, Kal Ho Na Ho is not just known for it’s classic story line but also for the range of styles it showcased. While Shahrukh Khan as Aman rocked his cargo pants in Pretty Woman, Saif Ali Khan as Rohit showed that suits with long overcoats or bright red tie can add a dash of surprise, and Preity Zinta as Naina completely owned her glasses and then the hot black cut out bellbottom and blouse in It’s The Time To Disco. Even Jaya Bachchan as Jennifer, Deklnaaz Irani as Sweetu and Lillete Dubey as Jazz added to the hard core New York street style. Sam, Kunal & Neha in Dostana Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Dostana is a gem that came out of Dharma Productions. This movie bought topic of LGBTQ to everyday dinning table, and it also gave some serious fashion goals to the industry. Abhishek Bachchan as Sam showcased some really relaxed style, John Abraham as Kunal showed us how he can sizzle even with just a trunk short and Priyanka Chopra as Neha in that golden swimsuit and bushy hairdo or even in that golden saree in Desi Girl simply raised the heat tremendously. It was like the cast was in beach wear even when they were not on the beach and no one’s complaining. Ayan, Alizeh, Saba & Ali in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Firstly, there were such good looking people all in one movie and secondly they were so very stylish. Starting off with Ayan Singer aka Ranbir Kapoor who made mufflers and mittens also look cool or wearing a sherwani to the airport a style statement. Then comes Anushka Sharma as Alizeh who with her kohled eyes, pierced nose and long kurta on jeans style made many teenagers rethink their westernised style. Her entire wedding wardrobe in the movie is till date a catalogue for most brides. Aishwariya Rai Bachchan as Saba looked the most stunning in her all white ensemble and her super hot party dresses with long over coats. Ali aka Fawad Khan, Lisa D’souza aka Lisa Haydon, Dr. Faisal Khan aka Imran Abbas were all so supremely stylish in each frame that not just their dialogues but also their fashion became a cult.
