Atlee claims he got calls from Hollywood after Jawan, has turned down blank cheques: “You can't buy me, but you can…”
Director Atlee, renowned for his recent blockbuster Jawan, has claimed that Hollywood professionals came knocking on his door after witnessing the film's spectacular success. However, he said that he turned down these tempting offers due to his profound belief that filmmaking should be driven by love and not monetary gains.
In an interview with Film Companion, Atlee elaborated on his filmmaking philosophy. He emphasised the significance of love in his craft, stating, "Without love, there is nothing in the world. There is no mathematical formula for my job. My craft is about love. If I don't love something, I can't creatively produce it. So, I have to fall in love."
He further added, "Honesty comes with love. You can't buy me, but you can love me, and I can love you back. Without love, I can't create anything."
Atlee revealed, "People who worked on our film were from Hollywood. Action director Spiro Razatos worked with us. So, Spiro and other great directors and technicians from Hollywood were at the same screening of Jawan. And Spiro said I have done action in this film. So, they asked who has done that scene where SRK is engulfed in flames.”
Atlee continued, “He said, ‘It was the director’s vision and he executed it.’ So they immediately connected with me and told me, ‘If you want to work in Hollywood, let us know,’ so it isn’t a taste which is very desi. It is something superheroic and it has a very basic rhythm. I thought this idea only works for us but it is working globally.”
Speaking of Jawan, it has achieved tremendous success on a global scale, amassing a staggering collection of Rs 957 crores, as of Friday. In the domestic market, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer has raked in Rs 546 crores, surpassing the lifetime collection of the previous Shah Rukh Khan film, Pathaan, which collected Rs 543 crores.
