Tiger 3-The Marvels situation averted; Prabhas-starrer Salaar manages to get shows in IMAX despite releasing in the same week as Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom

The IMAX has emerged as an enticing format for moviegoers over the years. Yet, getting a release in the giant IMAX screens can be a challenge, especially if the film is released on the same day as another IMAX-friendly Hollywood biggie. In the past, ’83 (2021) couldn’t be released in IMAX theatres since it arrived in theatres a week before Spider-Man: No Way Home and two days before The Matrix Resurrections. Adipurush lost out to The Flash on June 16 this year. This happens as IMAX doesn’t encourage the release of multiplex IMAX films in the same week. In the weekend gone by, The Marvels released in IMAX screens for just two days – on Friday, November 10 and Saturday, November 11. From Sunday, November 12, Tiger 3 took over all the shows in the premium screens across the country.

Another clash of IMAX films is taking place in the Christmas week. While Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will be released on December 21, Salaar will hit the cinemas on December 22. In an interesting development, both the biggies will get a release in IMAX. On the day of Diwali, Salaar’s makers released a new poster announcing a release in IMAX. With the poster, they also informed fans that the trailer of the film will be out on December 1, 2023, at 7:19 pm.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “In the past, Hollywood films have emerged triumphant. In the case of Tiger 3 and the Marvels, the Salman Khan-starrer had the upper hand. But with Salaar-Aquaman clash, both films will share shows. There’s a possibility that Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will have all IMAX shows to itself on the first day since it releases on December 21 while Salaar arrives on December 22.”

The source continued, “It now remains to be seen how the show-sharing takes place. Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is 1 hour 55 minutes long while Salaar is expected to be more than 2 hours. A clear picture would emerge in December.” Salaar also stars Shruti Haasan and is directed by Prashanth Neel of KGF fame.

Salaar and Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom are not the only releases on Christmas. Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, releases on December 21. It is directed by Rajkumar Hirani.

Meanwhile, Warner Bros, which has backed Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, will have one more IMAX release in December, Wonka. It arrives in theatres on
