Love Storiyaan’s six-episode budget cost less than one song of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani; shocked Karan Johar asked, “Are films made with this budget?”

Filmmaker Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the digital vertical of Dharma Productions, recently released an original series Love Storiyaan – a six-part chronicle of real-life love stories that dive deep into themes of love, hope, happiness, and triumph against all odds. Love Storiyaan is conceptualized by Somen Mishra and told through the lens of six directors – Akshay Indikar, Archana Phadke, Collin D’Cunha, Hardik Mehta, Shazia Iqbal and Vivek Soni.  In a recent chat, Dharmatic’s Content Head Somen Mishra revealed that Johar was shocked to learn the budget Amazon had allotted to the six-episode series.

In an interview with OTTPlay, Mishra said, “Karan was already shocked by the budget when he told him what we were getting from Amazon. Karan asked, ‘Iss budget mein filmein banti hain (Are films made with this budget)?’ I said, of course. I remember telling someone that the combined budget of all our six films is less than the budget of one song of Rocky Aur Rani KIi Prem Kahaani. Either less than or equal to. I guess, it will be less than. Because Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has big songs. Big studios, 200-plus people on sets.”

The series is produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta, created by Somen Mishra and has been inspired by real-life stories curated in collaboration with India Love Project, a social media community founded by former journalists Priya Ramani, Samar Halarnkar, and Niloufer Venkatraman. Love Storiyaan premiered on Prime Video on February 14. ALSO READ: Karan Johar introduces stories in Love Storiyaan in quirky video: “In real life, you have to fight for love”
