EXCLUSIVE: Abhishek Banerjee talks about Stree 2’s clash with Vedaa; is glad to know that Varun Dhawan’s cameo worked: “Now nobody remembers how much money Bhediya made. What people remember is that when he made an entry in Stree 2, whole theatre hooted”

Abhishek Banerjee is on a roll with Stree 2. As Jana, his performance has been unanimously appreciated and he played a big role in enhancing the laughter quotient. Interestingly, the John Abraham-Sharvari starrer Vedaa was released on the same day as Stree 2, in which he was seen in a negative role. It was also well appreciated. However, the film didn’t work as intended. Abhishek Banerjee spoke about this aspect in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama.

When asked if Vedaa had released a week later, would it had got its due, Abhishek Banerjee explained, “I honestly don’t have the intellect to comment on it. I don’t understand the distribution and production side. I am an actor and what I understood is that August 15 is a very big date. All the producers felt that they’d come together and make a lot of money. However, Stree 2 has become a tsunami. And nobody knows that a tsunami is coming. Aap expect thodi kar sakte ho ki itna bada toofan aayega.”

He added, “I am very proud of Vedaa. It has got a lot of love from the audience. Whoever is watching it has only good things to say about it. Also, some films have a long life. We might calculate it in terms of the business it does in one week or in three days. But there are so many films which became cult over a period of time. Let’s see what happens to Vedaa in future.”

This writer reminded him that something similar happened with Bhediya (2022), which is also a part of the same universe as Stree 2. It came a week after Drishyam 2 and got affected by its wave. However, it was watched widely on OTT. Therefore, when Bhediya made an entry in Stree 2, there were whistles and hoots in the cinema halls.

Abhishek Banerjee agreed, “Exactly. Kya aap usko paison mein naap sakte hai? Now nobody remembers how much money it made. What people would remember is that when Bhediya made an entry in Stree 2, the whole theatre hooted. That shows the love the film has got.”

Abhishek Banerjee recently had to clarify about his comments on working with Dharma Productions. Is all well with Karan Johar? He assured, “Yes. He’s a very big-hearted person. He’s also been there since so many years in the industry. I don’t think he must be getting affected by such small things. Hence, I don’t think it’s a big deal. Some miscommunication happened but now all is well.”
