EXCLUSIVE: Did you know that Tiku Talsania, known for his comic roles, played a VILLAIN in his debut film? Veteran actor BREAKS silence; also expresses desire to portray iconic roles like Don Corleone from The Godfather

Tiku Talsania is one of the most respected actors in the film industry and surprisingly, one can only recall him playing positive and comic roles. Has Tiku Talsania ever played a villain? Bollywood Hungama discussed this aspect during an exclusive interaction with the actor last month, during the promotions of the re-release of Andaz Apna Apna (1994).

When asked if he had ever essayed a negative role, Tiku Talsania revealed, “My very first film was called Duty (1986). I played the villain in that film! The film didn’t run much. I even asked director Ravikant Nagaich why he offered me the villainous role. He replied, ‘That’s because in the original South version, the villain looks exactly like me’!” Duty also starred Govinda, Anuradha Patel and Rakesh Bedi.

Tiku Talsania then confessed, “I am waiting for that opportunity where a director comes up and tells me, ‘I’ll make you a villain’. I’d like to play a role like that of Don Corleone in The Godfather. I’d love to play a role like The Equalizer. I’d like to do many things (smiles).”

It's often believed that comedy films nowadays don’t have the same kind of touch as the comedies of yesteryears. When asked what has gone wrong with comic capers, Tiku Talsania explained, “Nothing has gone wrong. The issue is that, except for comedians, nobody is taking comedy seriously. Comedy is a serious business, you see. It’s not like you mouth a funny dialogue and you are done. Aisa nahin hai. You have to get into the skin of the character and do it. Only then will people laugh.”

In the same interview, Tiku Talsania spoke about his wonderful memories of working on Andaz Apna Apna, “The most fun we had was with Santoshi saab (Rajkumar Santoshi). He told us, ‘This is not my film. This is everybody’s film’. Hence, everyone was given a free hand. We all wanted to improvise. Whatever he liked, he kept. Or he would instruct us, ‘Ab yeh mat bolna’ or ‘Ab yeh line bolna’. That made the whole process fun.”
